Reverberations

Cerulean Arts is pleased to present Reverberations featuring paintings and works on paper by Andrea Krupp and Lisa Sylvester. Krupp explores the relationship between the human condition and the Earth, focusing on the arctic and northern places she has visited through several residencies. Using simple materials such as graphite and acrylic paint on paper, Krupp constructs a symbolic universe of abstracted natural forms often incorporating text, which echoes and supports her explorations. Both the stillness and the sounds of nature are visually conveyed through her works. For Sylvester, text is often the trigger that sets into motion the process of constructing a painting, mined from literary sources that connect to her own life experiences and speak to the human condition. Sylvester's paintings utilize lines of hand-drawn micro-text layered over shapes with personal meaning. Creating networks of pattern in a desire to bring order to chaos, she pins down the intangible nature of metaphor and fiction into concrete form.
