Encaustic Painting on Photographs with Leah Macdonald
Learn the art of encaustic painting - heated beeswax mixed with colored pigments applied to a board. In this workshop, your own photos, drawings or prints will be the source material for the final work. Translucent layers of colored beeswax in combination with pigment sticks will be applied to distress and provide texture to the imagery, creating a unique work of art. No experience necessary; jpeg files of images must be emailed a week in advance by May 24; two images per person; one for mounting on wood panel, and one for paper. Be sure to see Leah's exhibition on view: May 5 - 30! Note: this workshop will be held in-person, outside in the Cerulean Arts private parking lot with appropriate social distancing. Face masks will be required.

Leah MacDonald is and artist and educator, working with photography and encaustic painting. Her work is a dialogue between her imagination, curiosity, imperfections and desires, telling the tales of womanhood through form, color and texture. She has enjoyed a varied career in the arts, shooting commercial photography, teaching at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, and designing handmade books and wedding albums for the company she founded, Bliss Books. She is currently the Education Curriculum Director at the Manayunk-Roxborough Art Center.
