Japanese Mixed-Media Techniques Workshop with Julie Zahn
Learn traditional Japanese techniques to create your own collages with paper, pigment and glue, using bird imagery as a springboard. Topics include stretching paper, making “gojiru” a soy-based binder for pigments, preparing wheat starch paste (glue) and collage application techniques. The $20 materials fee will cover all supplies needed for this informative, hands-on workshop!

Julie Zahn is a painter and printmaker. She employs oil, watercolor, collage and the Japanese stencil method of Katazome in her mixed media works. Creating a lush world of gardens and landscapes under moonlight and sunshine, in summer and winter, her work celebrates the richness and beauty of life itself. Her work was recently on view in the Cerulean Arts exhibition, Juxtaposed, September 1 – 23.
