Mixed Media Watercolor with Michael Kowbuz (In-Person)
Learn to use watercolor in combination with ink, gouache and dry media to create a range of effects. Learn to develop a drawing on watercolor paper from your own photo references then techniques for layering ink and watercolor to develop a deep, rich surface. Add gouache and drawing media for contrast and definition. All tools and techniques will be explained and demonstrated including choosing an appropriate image, transferring an image by drawing, brushes, types of paper, brands of paint and use of color, painting methods, and presentation of finished work. Michael Kowbuz is co-proprietor of Cerulean Arts Galley and Studio. He holds an MFA from PAFA and an MA in Community College Teaching from Northern Michigan University. He held the position of Director of Continuing Education Programs at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for 16 years. He makes drawings, paintings and prints and has exhibited both regionally and nationally. His work is about looking at filtered images of the world, whether via reflections, photographs or the fog of memory.
