Painting and Poetry Workshop with Cathleen Cohen (In-Person/Outdoors)

Do you jot down writings as you paint?  Or maybe you have an ongoing writing practice.  Join poet and artist Cathleen Cohen and explore the link between painting and poetry.  Deepen and expand your creative process even if you've never written a poem before!  Make your artist statement more engaging!  Draw and paint with watercolor and write in response to helpful prompts in a supportive environment.  Examine how artists like Jean Arp, Kenneth Patchen and Wassily Kandinsky linked the written word and visual art.  All levels welcome.  View/download materials list.

Note: this workshop will be held outside in the Cerulean Arts private parking lot, under a tent. Masks will be required.

Saturday, July 9 (Rain date: Sunday, July 10)

Student Testimonial:
I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful and valuable Cathy Cohen's workshop on poetry and art was, and I'm speaking as an artist who has spent most of his life keeping poetry at arm's length.  Cathy is not only an excellent teacher, she is patient and kind, particularly for a poetry tenderfoot like me.

The most enduring gift of Cathy's workshop was her introduction of a path of understanding art that I had never before considered. By focusing and collecting my thoughts about a work of art in order to write a poem, I encountered an unexpected and welcome tool for finding a deeper understanding of the work that had previously eluded me. I will continue to write poems to explore my work and that of others, and to find a deeper understanding of myself.

For these reasons, I would think that Cathy's workshop would be valuable and enjoyable not simply to "artists" and "poets," but to anyone seeking an opening to either or both disciplines.
