I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful and valuable Cathy Cohen's workshop on poetry and art was, and I'm speaking as an artist who has spent most of his life keeping poetry at arm's length. Cathy is not only an excellent teacher, she is patient and kind, particularly for a poetry tenderfoot like me.
The most enduring gift of Cathy's workshop was her introduction of a path of understanding art that I had never before considered. By focusing and collecting my thoughts about a work of art in order to write a poem, I encountered an unexpected and welcome tool for finding a deeper understanding of the work that had previously eluded me. I will continue to write poems to explore my work and that of others, and to find a deeper understanding of myself.
For these reasons, I would think that Cathy's workshop would be valuable and enjoyable not simply to "artists" and "poets," but to anyone seeking an opening to either or both disciplines.
