Artists from Ancient Egypt through Medieval Europe to American Masters such as Andrew Wyeth and James Gurney have used tempera – the technique of mixing dry pigments with egg yolk, glue or casein – to create paintings with intricate detail and luminous, jewel-like color. Learn all aspects of the medium including the characteristics of each binder, brushes and surfaces, mixing and storing paint, and both layered and direct, gestural, painting methods.  Work from a still life or your own drawings and photographs.

Materials List

Anthony Ciambella is a painter, sculptor, photographer, and mixed media and digital artist. Intrigued by ancient civilizations, ethnography and rituals, he draws on a wide range of artistic traditions in his work. He holds a Certificate in Painting from PAFA, where he has taught for over 25 years. He is also a painting conservator, practicing in Philadelphia for more than 35 years for both public institutions and privately.
