Andrea Beizer

Andrea Beizer

Andrea Beizer is an artist, cartoonist, architect and college professor. The one informs the other, each part being an important facet of her life. Having grown up in an artistic family she was exposed the visual arts early. She was drawn to "Outside Art" before it became popular, and has looked for inspiration in the tribal artworks of Africa and Australia, folk art as well as the ancient artwork of Myan and Summarian Cultures. Her interest in these types of works reflects her interests in myth and spirituality. This may be seen in all of her artwork including the Alice® series as the character struggles to find meaning in the world around her and her life as well.
In this exhibition, many older works, as well as 5 Alice Cartoon prints will be on display. The pastel/water color drawings were created in 1995 during a period in which she was practicing architecture full time. The graphite drawings were completed in 2013, just prior to the development of the Alice® Cartoon series.
Several of her large oil pastels created in 2011 and an oil painting created in 2004 are included too. The oil pastels were created after the death of her mother. She had a sabbatical at the Art Institute during the summer of 2010, and was able to use this period to create works that gave her a chance not only to mourn, but to meditate on the spiritual meaning of life's journey.
Andrea is a narrative artist, as may be seen in all of her work. A story about life affirming issues informs much of her inspiration. Many stories may come from the spiritual, religious or lived experiences. Questions regarding life and death as well as the "between" may be seen in many of her works as she searches to answer or at least contemplate life's purpose.
