IN THE GARDEN
Since childhood I have been fascinated by the talking serpent in the Garden. It won’t kill you (Gen 3:4). Adam was exonerated while Eve was held responsible for the Fall. Was Adam too smart to trust the serpent’s pitch; did Eve misinterpret it? They didn’t know what they were doing. They were just a couple of kids having fun and enjoying life.
I’ve been making snake/human hybrid sculptures and paintings for 40 years. My ideas come from several cultural sources. Many of my works illustrate immortality, eroticism, fertility, protection, rebirth, life in transition, death, and the Fall. The studies in this Cerulean exhibition relate a possible scenario of what might have happened at night in a garden.
