Nancy Cooke, Sarah Roche & Peggy Merves
Cerulean Arts is pleased to present In the Garden, featuring paintings by Nancy Cooke, Peggy Merves and Sarah Roche. A staple subject for artists, gardens and nature have recently become a renewed focus for many, providing respite during this time. Nature in all its forms inspires Cooke, but imagination, intuition, and the surprise of the unexpected discovery are what compel her to create her mixed media paintings. A former analytical scientist, she holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Roche’s garden paintings reference years of sketchbook drawings and are characterized by whimsy and bright color. She holds an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and teaches at the Tyler School of Art and Raritan Valley Community College. Reflecting her love of Matisse and Bonnard, Merves seeks to reduce her observed-from-life subjects to essentials, celebrating the color, line and brushwork of the painted surface itself. She holds a Certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
