John James Pron
I am an artist, an architect, and a retired faculty member from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University, Philadelphia, and I note that each one of these three lifelong enterprises has continuously reinforced the other two. I am endlessly focused on the appreciation of- and the making of- 3d spaces. How does one move past the solids and thru the voids, etched with textures and colors, illuminated in light and shadow? And I find myself drawn to human habitations rather than to nature. I thrive on the dynamism of cities (especially my lifelong residency in Philadelphia, but also of extensive time living in Rome). I appreciate how urban diversity enriches human experience, but also see the problems of so many people struggling to live better lives, their challenges embedded in economics, social issues and politics. And I have always been firmly committed to teaching and mentoring, now mainly thru what my artworks have to say.
