For many years my artwork would always include at least one figure but would also include a detailed background, often a landscape. Eventually the backgrounds took over and the figures disappeared. Mostly I work from photographs I’ve taken; digital image capture allows me to amass thousands of photos taken whenever I see something that speaks to me. I pore over my hoard and let my intuition choose the reference photos. My current drawings have evolved from just detailed studies for paintings to works that stand on their own. Following the convolutions of rumpled or twisted fabric has become particularly fascinating to me. There is emotional content to my work but I do no try to analyze or explain.
