Lisa BurgerLentz
I start with a tonal wash and establish the values, block in colors and as Stuart Shils says, "start the conversation". I apply compositional principles to my intuitive approach to painting. I am adding preliminary thumbnail drawings to my practice. I have explored using different tools in painting as I do in monotype printmaking. There is more opportunity for abstraction in monotype that I wish to carry over my painting practice.
Participating in Plein air events allows me to explore different locations in depth. There is a certain focus during an allotted time and is very motivating. Plus, friendly competition with very accomplished artists, possible sales and awards. I have made many good artist friends and acquaintances on the "circuit". These events can be fundraisers or highlight the local art scene, I enjoy that extra element of the experience.
