Marguerite Heilman My work is a manifestation of the energy that comes from being deeply engaged with the materials I use and the marks they make. When I paint, I am engaging with the physical properties of the media I use, engaging with the way my tools leave marks and the way the marks play with each other. I find the more exciting results happen when I am not trying to make the marks be something, but let the marks lead this dance. I know when a work is complete by the way it makes me feel. My understanding of what it is only comes later after I explore these feelings. Asking how it makes you feel opens a door to deeper engagement with the creative energy. I think this is a wonderful opportunity for the viewer to engage with this creative process.
