Monica Kane

Monica Kane during her exhibition at Cerulean Arts

Inspired by the natural world, my watercolors and monotypes contain references to internal and external experience. Watercolor, though an ephemeral medium, can be powerful and responsive to every nuance of the artist’s hand. It allows me to create work that is spontaneous, sensitive, and intimate. These are the qualities which make this medium compelling to me and which I strive to attain in my art. My work reflects a current and pervasive sense of dislocation, carrying forward my previous themes of migration, and it weaves together fact and mythology in an attempt to reflect our consciousness, experience, and history.
