September 1 - 25, 2022
Cerulean Arts is pleased to present Not Soon Forgotten, a celebration of artists who have passed over the last few years but who live on through their work: The delicate balance of biological and botanical subsystems that exist all around us served as inspiration for Patty Castner’s oils and watercolors. Captivated by the landscape of Fairmount Park, Patrick Connors considered his oil paintings states of mind rather than statements of the world. Thought and feeling interact in Jacqueline Cotter’s collage-like paintings where the linear and gestural merge. Originally from Alabama, self-taught artist Earl Flowers’ painted still lives, interiors and images of rural black life from a bygone era. Barbara Goodstein’s plaster on board sculptures depict both figures and the landscape with a gestural drawing quality. Working in a variety of media, Don Kaiser’s imagery was always decidedly contemporary. Millicent Krouse spent years making woodcuts before embracing the immediacy and spontaneity of watercolor combined with color pencil. Tilda Mann’s interest in narrative grew with life experience, the spontaneity and play of her calligraphic mark always evident. The joy of color as a spatial and emotive tool runs through the work of Karen Segal, artist and patron of many other Philadelphia artists.
