Philip Carroll sees creativity as part of our DNA and the foundation of how an artist transforms their story and interprets the world around us. Painting realistic landscapes and still life’s that inspire me, using watercolor studies en plein air, drawings, and reference photographs which help me to transform images into larger works as paintings in the studio.

Yet as much as DNA might be imbedded with stirring the creative genes. I still find myself reflecting on a belief I have always held: "That I do not choose my subjects, but rather they choose me." This notion holds some truth, as each painting represents a concept that emerges from various sources of inspiration and the chance meeting of your subject. These sources can manifest themselves at any time, in a dream, a gentle breeze, a ray of light, a falling leaf, or a fleeting movement caught in the corner of my eye.
