Pia De Girolamo

This body of work continues my exploration of the landscapes around me, both urban and suburban, and how they transform throughout the year. In these acrylic paintings, I focus on the shifting qualities of color, light, and atmosphere that accompany each season. Familiar places begin to feel entirely different depending on the time of year, the angle of the sun, or the way foliage and weather alter the scene. These paintings are a continuation of the work I have been doing documenting scenes from Philadelphia and the suburbs and showed last year. This particular series I'll be exhibiting next week is all new work and falls along seasonal lines, hence the title. Working on this series has been a way of paying closer attention to my surroundings. Up close, the paintings lean into abstraction through color and form; from a distance, the scenes settle into something more recognizable.
