Stephanie Rogers

I fell in love with abstract painting 20 years ago after taking Kassem Amoudi’s class, Painting Beyond the Line. Under his guidance, I learned to apply the principles of painting while trusting my own vision and exploring the expressive power of a splatter or drip of paint. I value abstraction for the freedom it gives viewers to form their own associations and discoveries. The eyes are a mirror, reflecting the self in infinite designs; perhaps all paintings are self-portraits.
I begin each painting with a gesture, then move through composition, form, and color—a meditation in optimistic, colorful motion. I have always loved feeling the breeze and watching clouds and trees sway freely in its force, and I try to capture that movement in my work. I hope to share the joy I feel when I surrender to intuition and play, allowing each finished piece to emerge through discovery. What unfolds remains open to the imagination, offering a brief reprieve from the harshness of the world.
