Susan Sullivan

Susan Sullivan during her exhibition at Cerulean Arts My current paintings start with the motif of the pool and what lies within it. The works are formed using a combination of memory and invented imagery. The star of my paintings is the usage of mark and the sensuousness of color. With each work, I am trying to allow the viewer to enter into a colorful space, but one in which there are uncertainties. I want the imagery to swirl around you or leap towards you. Hear the staccato of the mark made on the surface. To feel the sensation of color bouncing off the work and soaking into your skin like the morning sun. Pools are most often associated with places of relaxation and fun, these spaces are undefined and perhaps a bit distorted, thus, they don’t allow the viewer to get too comfortable.
