Cerulean Arts is pleased to present The Figure: Light, Form and Motion featuring artwork by John Horn, Harold Kalmus, Carolyn Pyfrom, Bruce Samuelson and Patricia Traub. Well-versed in classical figurative traditions, sculptor and draftsperson John Horn harmoniously balances proportion, skeletal framework, surface form and movement.  Creating finely crafted figure sculpture, portrait busts and reliefs, Kalmus incorporates a modernist sensibility with an adherence to the figurative traditions of the past.  Carolyn Pyfrom aims for a convincing sense of light and atmosphere in her figure paintings and works with a muted, carefully controlled palette that accentuates the textural quality of her work.  Bruce Samuelson’s drawings and paintings expand beyond traditional methods of representation to arrive at elegant meditations on the human form.  Working from observation, Patricia Traub creates sensitively rendered figure studies and arresting paintings of humans and animals, the context of which is about our responsibility to all living things and the environment we all live in.
