Tour & Talk with Mick Ricereto, Shushana Rucker & Erik Weedeman

Cerulean Arts presents The Test of Time, featuring cityscape paintings by Mick Ricereto, Shushana Rucker and Erik Weedeman. Residing amongst the houses, factories and commercial spaces of a centuries-old city, it is impossible to escape vestiges of the past as we live our lives today. Each artist seeks to address this phenomenon in their own way. Mick Ricereto hunts for his subjects on hushed Sunday mornings, observing the amalgam of use and uselessness standing together in a perpetual timeline of society’s past successes. For Ricereto, watercolor is a metaphor for our urban environment with each layer built upon the last. Shushana Rucker looks for connections between people and structures, the influence of humans on the landscape, and the impact of time on manmade objects in her oil on panel paintings. She seeks to understand both our aging urban environment and the people who occupy and interact with it. Erik Weedeman is drawn to the traces of Philadelphia’s industrial past and the lived-in feeling of its streets. He focuses on its weathered structures, architectural detail, grit and graffiti in his acrylic on canvas paintings. Despite the inescapable past, he seeks to capture the city as it exists right now – in this moment.
