Design & Composition Fundamentals Workshop with Shushana Rucker
This workshop will introduce students to the fundamental principles of design and composition. Using simple materials and guided exercises, students will learn how to organize visual elements to create clear, engaging images. Concepts covered will include balance, contrast, movement, focal point, and value structure. These ideas will be applied through quick studies and practical examples that can translate across drawing, painting, and printmaking.

Shushana Rucker is a Philadelphia-based painter and printmaker whose work investigates architecture, landscape, and connection. She earned her MFA from the University of Delaware and a Certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Her work has been widely exhibited, and she has been the recipient of numerous awards including a 2022 New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship. Rucker is also an avid arts educator with over 20 years of experience teaching all age levels.
