Frederic C. Kaplan is a senior faculty member of Rowan College of South Jersey and a faculty member at PAFA, where he earned an MFA. He enjoyed a successful career as an illustrator and designer for pharmaceutical, medical, industrial, and publishing companies before devoting himself exclusively to gallery art in the late 1990s. He has since participated in numerous one-person and group exhibits at galleries, institutions, and museums in the U.S. and South America. His work, which is included in many public, corporate, and private collections, has been recognized with regional and national awards.
Says Kaplan, “My work combines abstract concepts with realistic treatments. It is based on things I see, things I invent, and things I read about, especially physics and cosmology. Color, composition, and effects of light are important to me. I usually try to tell a story or make a statement with my pictures, often through enigmatic or ironic imagery. But mostly I make pictures in order to get better at it, with hopes of living long enough to one day make a masterpiece.”
