Experience the joy of watercolor painting in combination with gouache and ink to create a range of effects! Learn techniques for layering ink and watercolor to develop a deep, rich surface as well as direct, alla prima methods. Add gouache and drawing media for contrast and definition. Subject matter will include still life and/or your own photographs. All tools and techniques will be explained and demonstrated including preparatory drawing, brushes, types of paper, use of color and painting methods. Designed to be instructional and fun for students of all levels of experience from beginner to advanced.

Michael Kowbuz is co-proprietor of Cerulean Arts Galley and Studio. He holds an MFA from PAFA and an MA in Community College Teaching from Northern Michigan University. He held the position of Director of Continuing Education Programs at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for many years. He makes drawings, paintings and prints and has exhibited both regionally and nationally. His work is about looking at filtered images of the world, whether via reflections, photographs or the fog of memory.
