Explore the exciting world of handmade visual books! 

Single Page Books:
Create several book structures using single pieces of papers. An array of colorful patterned sheets will be available to construct multiple formats. Fold, score, and cut these single decorative papers into fun and creative books that can be further adapted into complex personal formats. Options to draw or paint on papers will also be explored.

Accordion Fold Book:
Create an Accordion, Leporello, or “Zig/Zag” book, based on the Concertina Fold, made from one rectangular, continuous piece of paper. This non-sewn structure is the foundation for endless creative explorations and is expandable into an array of exciting artists’ books. All materials will be provided. Additional book construction, paper handling information, and links to private tutorials will be shared.

Diane Pepe is a member of the Cerulean Arts Collective. She is a multidisciplinary artist whose 2 and 3-dimensional work relates to the connections between art and science. Her work is exhibited in various venues such as Cedarburg Art Museum Cedarburg, WI; Marin Moca Museum of Contemporary Art, California; Grounds for Sculpture, NJ; Barnes Foundation, PA; The Brownsville Museum of Fine Art, Texas; The Woodmere Art Museum, PA; The Palmer Museum of Art, PA; and The Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Wilmington, DE. Large scale installations include The State Museum in Harrisburg; Window on Broad, UArts; and included as part of a permanent install at The Philadelphia International Airport, PA.

Pepe is the recipient of numerous grants such as: Arts in Education Fellowship funded by the NEA with support by The Getty Center in the Arts, Washington D.C.; The PA Council on the Arts Special Projects Grant; and The National Science Foundation Research grants from PSU. She was an Associate Professor of Art at The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, PA. Pepe received her MA from The University of New Mexico and her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University. She is also Founding Director of The ASEP at The Philadelphia School.
